Mozilla Rally to “fight big tech”

38

It’s your data.
Use it for a change.

Big tech has built its success by exploiting your data. When you join Mozilla Rally studies, your data helps us uncover Facebook’s tracking network, understand search engine choice, and help local news find sustainability. People just like you help build a better internet for all.

“Mozilla Rally is a revelatory tool that seeks to fix the information imbalance created by tech platforms at the public’s expense.”

Julia Angwin,

Editor-in-Chief and Founder of The Markup

How it Works

  1. Set Up a Profile

Tell us about yourself, if you want to.

After you install the Mozilla Rally add-on, currently available for Firefox, we’ll ask you to provide optional demographic data. This information helps us understand the composition and representativity of the Rally community. How much you disclose is up to you, and we’ll always ask your permission before we share any information with a research collaborator.

    How we collect your data

  2. Join a Study

Find the study that’s right for you, then let your data do the work.

Each study has a clear focus, unique data needs, and specific goals. Before you enroll, we’ll tell you exactly who we’re working with, which data is being collected, where it’s going, and how it’s being used. Once you’re enrolled, Rally will do its thing until you tell it to stop or the study ends.

    How we use your data

  3. Stay in Control

The Mozilla Rally icon will appear on the Firefox toolbar.

Use it how you want to. When you select the icon, you can update settings, enroll or drop out of studies, or even choose to leave Rally entirely. No hard feelings—participation is entirely up to you. We’re never collecting anything without you telling us to do so.

    How you own your data

Ready to Rally?

The internet should be used to benefit all, not just some. With your help, we can create a safer, more transparent, and more equitable internet that protects people, not Big Tech.

“Mozilla Rally has the potential to be the Hubble Space Telescope of the Internet.”

David Lazer,

University Distinguished Professor of Political Science and Computer Sciences, Northeastern University

In Collaboration With

We collaborate with trusted institutions that abide by our values and align with our vision for the future. All to ensure you’re putting your data in the hands of people you can trust to amplify your impact while protecting your privacy.

We believe in a better internet, and we think you do too.

We’re putting our collective data to work to address our most pressing technology concerns and build power in the hands of the people. The data you agree to share with Mozilla (the makers of Firefox) helps create tools for better internet transparency and products that give control back to the people who use them.

“Simplicity, patience, compassion.
These three are your greatest treasures.
Simple in actions and thoughts, you return to the source of being.
Patient with both friends and enemies,
you accord with the way things are.
Compassionate toward yourself,
you reconcile all beings in the world.”
― Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching
