Accident: Jetblue A320 at Hayden on Jan 22nd 2022, tail strike on takeoff, B350 on short final in reverse direction

By Simon Hradecky, created Wednesday, Jan 26th 2022 07: 42Z, final up so a long way Sunday, Jan 30th 2022 08: 42Z

A Jetblue Airbus A320-200, registration N760JB performing flight B6-1748 from Hayden,CO to Citadel Lauderdale,FL (USA), became departing Hayden’s runway 10 at 11: 57L (18: 57Z) when the plane’s tail contacted the runway surface. The plane persisted a customary departure and climbed to FL310, when Denver Center forwarded a message to the crew stating they had a tail strike on the departure runway. The crew as a result of this truth determined to divert to Denver,CO (USA) where the plane landed on runway 35R without extra incident about 45 minutes after departure from Hayden. There had been no injuries, the plane sustained gigantic ruin alternatively.

The FAA reported: “AIRCRAFT INCURRED A TAIL STRIKE ON DEPARTURE, HAYDEN, CO.”, acknowledged the ruin became unknown and rated the occurrence an incident, later correcting to accident.

The NTSB opened an investigation into the occurrence score the occurrence an accident.

A reader made The Aviation Herald mindful that a Beech 350 became on advance to runway 28 (in reverse direction to the departure) at the time, the Jetblue might presumably want suffered the tail strike as outcomes of an avoidance maneouver. Neither FAA nor NTSB talked about the presence of some other plane within the departure course or the most likely for a lack of separation/that you might presumably well agree with collision.

Passengers (supported by video proof) reported the tail strike became clearly felt and heard upon rotation for takeoff, the captain launched about 20 minutes after departure (in regards to the time they began the descent into Denver) that they had been warding off some other shrimp plane on advance in reverse direction, they had been diverting to Denver.

In step with the FAA ASDI info (radar tracking info) a Beech 350 registration N350J returning from Citadel Smith,AR (USA) became on advance to Hayden’s runway 28 at the time of the accident and touched down at 11: 58L (19: 58Z) about 100 seconds after departure of the A320. On the time of the A320 turning into airborne the Beech 350 became 2.85nm from the runway 28 threshold descending via 7500 toes MSL (900 toes AGL). On the time the B350 touched down the A320 became climbing via 8800 toes MSL about 2.2nm previous the runway 10 stop (=runway 28 threshold) in a runt factual hand flip about 0.4nm off the prolonged runway center line.

Hayden’s Yampa Valley Airport aspects a runway 10/28 of 3048 meters/10,000 toes length at an elevation of 2010 meters/6600 toes MSL. Hayden Airport does now not characteristic a protect watch over tower, a UNICOM frequency is published for the airport.

“Simplicity, patience, compassion.
These three are your greatest treasures.
Simple in actions and thoughts, you return to the source of being.
Patient with both friends and enemies,
you accord with the way things are.
Compassionate toward yourself,
you reconcile all beings in the world.”
