On 2022-03-19 the Free Instrument Foundation awarded me the 2021 Award
for Excellent New Free Instrument Contributor
. The award ceremony took
deliver in the context of this 12 months’s LibrePlanet convention, where this
video message of mine became once shown.

What I mentioned:

Hello all people! My identify is Protesilaos. Some chums call me “Prot”
and you is susceptible to be welcome to make the same.

I steal to thank the Free Instrument Foundation for this award. I became once
not awaiting it, appropriate as I became once not awaiting to assemble any make of
contribution to GNU Emacs, given my non-technical background.

As I also train in my presentation for LibrePlanet 2022 my background
became once not tech-related: it became once in the humanities and I at closing learnt
to program by tinkering with Emacs and the total free device sources
that got to me.

So while this award is given to an particular person, I mediate it with out a doubt is
all in regards to the community. How the community—how all these unsung
heroes—be pleased helped a given person assemble clear issues. And this
is because when I got here to Emacs, when I switched to Emacs, when I
joined this milieu two-and-a-half of years previously I came upon every little thing I
wanted. There became once high fantastic documentation, an very just valid program in
the face of GNU Emacs, many of blogs and tutorials and every little thing and,
in actual fact, interactions with diversified folk from where you progressively
gain to learn one thing fresh.

So I steal to thank all people from this broader community for all their
efforts and all their contributions. Without them I wouldn’t be
anywhere and I mediate it’s stunning to claim that with out the unsung heroes
in our existence on the total, no particular person would assemble one thing of
significance.

I steal to thank, in particular, some folk who be pleased been very superior
in my time as an Emacs person; who be pleased helped me learn issues. And
these are, in no particular whisper: Daniel Mendler, Manuel Uberti,
Nicolas De Jaeghere, and Omar Antolín Camarena. So I steal to thank
these and, in actual fact, all people else. On account of the FSF for this
award!

“Simplicity, patience, compassion.
These three are your greatest treasures.
Simple in actions and thoughts, you return to the source of being.
Patient with both friends and enemies,
you accord with the way things are.
Compassionate toward yourself,
you reconcile all beings in the world.”
― Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching
